Greetings fellow blue and yellow bookers....Is a day trip that includes Rouen and Giverny something that can be reasonably accomplished or would it not do either place justice? If it is what order should the trip be planned?
Giverny does not seem like a full day but I need the experience of some salty dogs to give me some ideas. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
We went to Giverny when it opened, left about two hours later. Drove to Rouen, spent about three hours including lunch, then poked around in a couple of villages on the way back to our hotel in Les Andeleys. (Chaine d'Or.) We did not feel rushed by this.
Your idea is a good plan. I would go to Giverny when it opens as the place can become very crowded by noon. What time of the year are you traveling? It doesn't seem to get as many people visiting in the fall. Rouen is a fairly short drive from Giverny and being a large city is always crowded, so timing isn't so important. A problem we had was finding parking. We chose to park by the cathedral so we could use it as a landmark when looking for our car. Have a great time.
We are going to be late September and early October so we are just over two months away. We were planning to take the train to Vernon, rent bikes to Giverny then back to the train station and on to Rouen.
I have been researching and planning this trip for a year or so and every day I come up with a new wrinkle. Thanks all.
I've been to both places (though not in the same day). I think this is an admirable plan. For extra time on the ground, pack a picnic lunch to eat on the train. (AM Giverny, PM Rouen.) Buy all your tickets in advance (either online, or the day before) so that you can get a reasonably early start.
