Looking for a suggestion on a hotel for one night in Rothenburg, Germany. (husband and wife, private bath desired with parking for a car.)
We were happy with Hotel Cafe Uhl. Breakfast at their cafe downstairs was included and they provided a parking space down the street.
I'll put in another vote for Hotel Cafe Uhl. It is very convenient location, nice staff and nice breakfast. I had a room in the back with beautiful views and very quiet.
We stayed two nights at the Hotel Goldener Hirsch in Rothenburg. It's an old hotel with lots of charm in a wonderful location. They have a parking lot for guests. Their breakfast room has an amazing view over the countryside. I highly recommend it.
My wife and I stayed at the Gasthof Klingentor in late April, just a short walk outside the Klingen Tor. Modest price, tidy room, off-street parking, good breakfast; plus Barbara and George are fine hosts.
We stayed at Hotel Gasthof 'Zum Breiterle' just inside the wall. The did have free parking but you should arrive early. Our room had a private bath. The hotel is not as modern but the room was clean.
Deb Rothenburg is so small and tourist friendly that I think there are no bad hotels there. I also recommend the Goldener Hirsch. Good location.
We have never had a bad hotel in Rothenburg. We really like the Altfraenkishe Wein Stubbe, the rooms there are very classic and reasonably priced. We have never stayed at the Cafe Uhl but I certainly would trust it. In our book, we have not been to Rothenburg until we have been to the Cafe Uhl for raspberry torte. Wherever you stay you should do well. Don't forget the Night Watchman's Tour, it is both fun and and excellent history lesson.
I've stayed at Hotel Klosterstuble twice and it's very good. Located within the walls it's hard to beat the location. They have parking available at no additional charge. They are extremely helpful and friendly. They have a nice restaurant for dinner and a very good breakfast that comes with the room. They will fix you eggs any way you want! Everything in Ricks book is walkable from this hotel.
Personally I would choose Castle Colmberg about 15 minutes away from Rothenburg. http://www.burg-colmberg.de How many times do you have the chance to spend the night in a medieval castle?
