Rothenburg ob der Tauber hotels

Hello travelers... Can anyone recommend a hotel or B and B in Rothenburg? My husband and I will be visiting around 1 Aug this year and plan to stay a night or two.
Cheers!

Agree with Gasthof Greifen. Spent 4 nights there and loved it. Loved Rothenburg. Wonderful as a base camp to see many other cities and areas. After crowds leave in late afternoon it's even more wonderful...but still nice with crowds. Enjoy

Last week I stayed at Hotel Spitzweg and I would highly recommend it. http://www.hotel-spitzweg.de/ISY/. The room was wonderful and the breakfast was amazing. There was so much food, I ended up making sandwiches for us for lunch as we were going to be driving for a few hours and the owner was so pleased that I did this, he brought over wrappers to put the sandwiches in and insisted on putting together a bag of cookies for us as well.

We liked hotel Klosterstuble. It was a bit more fancier than the gastof golderner greifen. But the Greifen is older with lots of charm. I would stay at them both again. Both have great restaurants, even for us vegetarians. http://www.klosterstueble.de/

My husband and I just returned from 2 weeks in Europe with a stop in Rothenburg. We also stayed at hotel Spitweg. The rooms are a bit small but who cares, you're just sleeping anyway. It's close to the town square and the best part, he has parking behind the building for your car. He's a great host and very interesting to talk to. Just know that there is no internet connection. Be sure to take the night watchman tour. . .. it's a must in this town.

I recently stayed in Hotel Cafe Uhl. I loved the location inside the wall just down the street from the market square, but on the edge of the walled area. The room was very nice, and if you have a room in back, the view is great.

I also stayed at the Hotel Cafe Uhl. Our room was nice and the location was convenient. They served us breakfast at their cafe downstairs.

I had a delightful time at Pension Elke. Inexpensive, nice hosts, nice rooms, and great breakfast .

Seconding Hotel Hornburg, we were just there a week and a half ago. It's just outside the main gate and has it's own parking lot (costs a few Euros though, but worth it for ease). It was very quaint and quiet, because it wasn't in the city. It literally is right outside the gate though. They now have a mascot ( a golden retriever named Buddy) that stole our hearts (and a book, but he gave it back). Check out the pictures, it's beautiful and so is the courtyard below it. They spoke English and were wonderful hosts. Enjoy your trip to Rothenburg!

Gosh, thanks so so much everyone!!! This was the first time I posted a question is a forum, and I am thrilled with the response! My husband and I are taking our first trip to Europe together and I have been trying to decide whether to use a travel agent or plan it ourselves... after this experience, I feel that planning it ourselves will be a lot better. We can get lots of recommendations from fellow travelers with ease. We are traveling Denmark, Germany (mostly southern) and Italy. If anyone feels like lending an opinion on hotels, B and Bs or anything on your "must see" list - I would love to hear it. Thanks again and happy travels. ;)

Ten years ago I stayed at Raidel. I found it on my own using the town website. I didn't know at the time that it was mentioned by Rick or what the comments were. My stay was mostly enjoyable. The host, Lorry, is friendly and gracious. The place is filled with antiques and paintings by, he said, his father. My only complaint is that is was very hot when we were there, and, of course, there is no air conditioning, so we wanted the windows open. Our room was on the street side, and the street is the first street outside the pedestrian zone. There was traffic on the street until late at night.

I also strongly recommend the Burg Hotel. Wonderfully situated in the town wall (we had a room overlooking the valley); very gracious family owns it. Excellent breakfast in a breakfast room with a view. For only two nights its a wonderful experience (maybe a little splurge). Only a short walk from the town square and the gardens, but the daily tourists dont get there

If you want to stay in the same hotel that Adolf Hitler stayed in twice, then stay at Hotel Eisenhut.
It was the best hotel in Rothenburg and probably still is.
