Recommended places to stay,inside/outside wall during month of Sept, 2011. Thanks, Andrea
The Markusterm and Burg hotels are related in some way, both excellent and atmospheric. The restaurant in Markusterm is superb
We enjoyed three places in Rothenburg. The Gasthof Greifen at the town center; it has a nice atmosphere and good meals at a reasonable price. http://www.gasthof-greifen-rothenburg.de/.....Hotel Raidel is a good price and location inside the wall. http://www.romanticroad.com/raidel/english/hotel.htm....Haus Karin is bargain about 5 minutes outside the wall. http://www.haus-karin.de/engl.htm
Our favorite is Hotel Hornburg just outside the city wall. We've stayed there twice and enjoyed the atmosphere, location and breakfast very much. www.hotel-hornburg.de
The Burg Hotel is built into the wall, a lot of the rooms have windows with views outside the walls, the breakfast room looks over the valley. A favorite hotel for us. Also a little away from the tourist streets, but still within the walls very near the garden
we stayed at the Romantik Hotel Markusturm- great location within city walls. The room was beautiful and huge(it was a triple) we were there in late June...I don't remember how I booked it -but at around $225 us a night it was fine-later I saw it on Booking .com for closer to $125. The included breakfast was up with the best I've had.
I will put my vote in for the Burg Hotel. There are great views of the Tauber valley if you can get a room on the wall. Otherwise you will have to be content with the views from the breakfast room. The owner and her parents are lovely and I can't wait to go and visit them again.
I have been there twice and have stayed in 2 different places. I first stayed at the Gasthaus Greifen. It is the former mayor's house that was built in like the year 1200 (or maybe 1400). Good food, good beer. The 2nd time I went to Rothenburg, Greifen did not have any availability ( and I inquired 6 months in advance). So I booked a room at Hotel Klosterstuble. I had a very cute room with awesome view out the back of the local houses and valley. Food was great and so was the beer. I do not know which one was the best. But maybe I liked Klosterstuble a tad bit more. They did have a great breakfast buffet.
We stayed at Gasthof Greifen- we LOVED LOVED LOVED it. It was dang old but so cool- the food was incredible. You feel like family.
Try the Hotel Altfränkische Weinstube am Klosterhof http://www.romanticroad.com/altfraenkische-weinstube/english/restaurant.htm It has a teriffic German atmosphere, and on Wed nights they have an English speaking club.
