Please give detailed descriptions of your experience with inns in Rothenburg. I'd prefer to stay somewhere with more history (older than 100 or 200 years). Also is 1 day/night enough? Or should i stay for 2 nights?
See Barbara's post on 8/12 asking for info on accomodations in Rothenburg. Quite a lot of info there on hotels.
If you're taking the train, do 2 nights and 1 day. Because of it's location you'll have a few connections, which might cut your stay too short. Plus, it's great at night.
Shoot i did a search but must've missed her post!! I'm traveling by car and am leaning towards 2 nights... we'll arrive on a Sunday evening.
Highly recommend the Goldenen Rose in Rothenburg - the inn was built in the late 1700's I think and there is a restaurant attached. Also very affordable!

Gasthof goldener Greifen claims to have been an inn since 1374. In any case, we enjoyed both the room and the restaurant. The food is simple but well prepared. The location is very good just off the square.
We prefer two nights in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, especially when we visited in the off season. The town is a bit overwhelming in the height of the tourist season. The best thing about the town for me is just walking through the alleys, in the garden and outside the wall. I liked small sights like the town museum and the Franciscan Church.

I second Gasthof Griefen. We stayed there for two nights in July and loved our huge room and the meals we ate there. They are did our laundry, folded it, and brought it back to our room! The town settles down around 4 pm and it has a great nighttime atmosphere. We walked the wall and into the valley, listened to an organ recital in Jakob's Church, took the Night Watchman tour, went to the Medievel Crime Museum, ate dinner with the English Conversation Club, and shopped. It was a pleasant stop for myself and three teenagers.
