Rothenberg - Lodging Recommendation

We will be staying for one night in Rothenberg, from Bonn on our way to Munich. Any suggestions for a place in a handy location and comfortable? And, is one night enough time? Thanks!!

Rothenburg ob der Tauber? We stayed two nights at the Gasthof Greifen...wonderful, large rooms. It is located right off the town square. The restaurant downstairs was great also! The town in the evening is great- less crowded, night watchman tour fun, good restaurants, nice to walk wall and valley nearby. If you happen to be there on a Wednesday night you need to go to the English Conversation Club at a little restaurant in town. We had a wonderful time visiting with people from the town and from other places!

I stayed in the Hotel Goldene Rose, and found the room really comfortable (no frills, just a basic room - recommended in Rick's Guidebooks). It's in a convenient location for reaching the main square and the Night Watchman's tour.

Happy travels!

Sarah, if you arrive by train and have disembarked the boat (a motor launch meets every train) at the Hallstatt dock, look to the left and locate the Evangelical (protestant) church with the pointy steeple. Standing at the church, view the Gasthof Zauner across the small plaza. It's a great place to lodge and eat. This is all within a few steps of the dock.
We hope you enjoy Hallstatt as much as we.
Gute Reise ! P.

We stayed at the Gasthof Greiffen (sp?) last summer. It is right in the center of town. It is really lovely. Ask for room #1 Rates are good. My wife loved this place

We stayed at Hotel Cafe Uhl -- recently updated rooms, not luxury, but a good value. I think one night would be okay, depending on how much of the days before and after you spend. Definitely be there for the night watchman's tour, wander the wall a little, as well as the town. We loved it.

We stayed a few weeks ago at Haus Karin - it is outside the wall, a 5 minute walk to be inside. Karin was wonderful - she has 5 adult children who are gone, so she rents out their rooms in a real nice house. The breakfast she served was incredible.

Ron-Where exactly is Karin's place? I am curious. I tried to stay there but there were no openings when we were there last month. We really liked the Gasthof Greifen but I have heard so many nice things about Karin's place too. How close is she to the bahnhof?

We stayed at Pension Becker on Rosegasse and enjoyed our inexpensive but nice room. Good breakfast and friendly hosts.

You will enjoy your stay! When we were there in July, even Rick Steves was staying there. The rooms we had were big, bright and pleasantly decorated. Like I said before the restaurant serves up a good breakfast and I would recommend dinner there also! Let me know how your trip went after you return.
