Rota, Spain

I'll be in Rota for approximately 24 hours. Any suggestions for day trips? Is Gibraltar too far? Do I need to rent a car or is public transportation available? Thanks in advance!!

I think renting a car to Gibralter and back might be the easiest way -- it can easily be done in a day (couple of hours each way, but a bunch of road construction in the area between the two might throw you off). However, Spain has an excellent bus system (which I've never used) so there might be an option there -- the problem might be the hike in from the border to the central part of Gibralter.

Cadiz is just a boat ride across the bay and would be a relaxing way to spend the day.

Seville is closer than Gibralter (about 1.5 hours by car), again, I'd look into a bus in your situation. It would give you maybe a better taste of the complexity of the culture of southern Spain.

Rota itself would probably bore you to tears after a couple of hours.

Out of idle curiosity, what are you doing in Rota, anyway? It's kind of off the beaten path -- if not on the back side of nowhere.
