In his guide, Rick says these are cheap and "usually a good experience". I'd like to know how easy such rooms are to locate in cities like Madrid, Sevilla and Barcelona? What prices did you pay? And, maybe I am reaching here, was internet available at all? Any general comments are welcome and appreciated as well. Thanks!
In many places, you can just go to the bus station and look for the middle-aged women hanging out in the parking lot. These are frequently either widows or divorcees who are looking to supplement a meager pension by letting a spare room in their house. The experiences I've had in these situations have been overwhelmingly positive. (Members of this demographic probably do not have an available internet connection.) Another option would be to search on http://www.loquo.com/en_us (the Spanish version of Craigslist (also of limited use)) for a room for rent.
