How much time would you allow for in Ronda on a daytrip between Granada and Sevilla? We are arriving from Granada at 9:20 and are trying to choose between 14:00, 18:00 (in transit, may or may not have seats), and 19:00 departures to Sevilla. We will not have a car, so we will be sticking to the town only.
You'll be done after lunch.
Ronda is a nice town, and I could easily see taking the 18:00 train if you want to relax and enjoy the town. It depends upon how much time you have in Seville, if only one day then get to Seville sooner. If three full days and four nights, linger in Ronda.
I would give it 3-4 hrs, including lunch. Lovely little town. We only spent 2 hrs, and I wasn't able to wander around the Moorish quarter.
The 14: or 18: departure would allow plenty of time - I'd take the earlier if you aren't spending much time in Sevilla. I spent about 4 hours in Ronda and felt I saw most of what I wanted to see, but I was there on a very rainy day, so it's hard to say if you'd need more time with better outside weather. I enjoyed my tapas lunch at Tragatapas (Calle Nueva 4) - excellent tapas (the asparagus was divine). Mr. Steves had been there filming the week before (if you watch the latest Southern Spain episodes, you'll see my waiter!).
Ronda is most spectacular at sunset. You may not be able to rearrange your schedule, but my recommendation would be to arrive in the afternoon, hike the gorge and come up at sunset to see the bridge and the gorge with that great light. Then, scoot over to one of the hotels that have outside balconies on the gorge to have tapas and a cocktail watching the sun go down over the gorge! Spend the night and leave first thing in the morning.
We enjoyed our few hours in Ronda. I saw the bullring & museum while my wife wandered around and took photos. We had a nice lunch and then we were on our way. Beautiful place - enjoy whatever amount of time YOU can spare there.
If I couldn't stay overnight, but only a few hours, I would take either of the 2 later trains. I thought Ronda was absolutely lovely, particularly at sunset. We only had the 1/2 day of our arrival plus an overnight. We left early the next day, but I wish we could have stayed another 1/2 day. We walked from the train station to our hotel in the newer part of town; it was about a 15-min walk, not too difficult, but a pain when carrying luggage as well. I don't know if there are lockers at the train station. Since you'll be there only a few hours, I would suggest starting with the Moorish citadel first, so you don't miss exploring this enchanting section of this pueblo blanco, which is said to be one of the most dramatic because of the gorge splitting the town in half.
