Rome, Nice, Paris

My sister and I (early 20's) are planning a trip from Rome to Paris and would like to stop in Nice/French Riviera. Should we travel by air from Rome to Nice? Or is the train an option? Same thing from Nice to Paris? We are also looking for other suggestions in the French Riviera (some other places more "off the beaten path") to visit. Hotel suggestions for Nice/Paris would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

You may want to compare prices for a flight as opposed to the train. It will be a long trip to Nice from Rome because you will have to stop possibly in Milan. It is not cheap. We were surprised to see the big improvements in some train stations in Italy last Sept. when we were there. We were even more surprised to see the cost of train travel, even point to point like a local. We love to get on the TGV in France and zoom from place to another. Check the TGV schedule on line and see what they offer from Nice.

If you book well in advance, flying on a budget airline from Rome to Nice will be a lot cheaper than taking the train. Both Blu-Express and easyJet fly Fiumicino-Nice. The standard 2nd class fare for a Nice-Paris TGV is over €100.00. If you book well in advance (up to three months allowed) at tgv-europe.com, you can get a Prem's fare as low as €25.00. To keep the site in Englsh and to avoid being bumped to the Rail Europe site which doesn't offer discount fares, choose Great Britain as your country of residence.
