Romantic Road Updates!

Hi All --
Thanks so much for all the suggestions on the earlier posted Romantic road article. I have changed our Europe Iten and now we have 3 days and 3 nights for the romantic road. Basically we are going tobe in Munich at 12 noon on Friday and need to reach Frankfurt at 12 noon on Monday for our flight back to Chicago at 3 pm. (We are going to be doing the Romantic Road from March 28th - March 31)
I would love to get suggestions about the palces to see and towns to stay in. Can we visit The Rhine Valley (Bacharach)also in this time?

Hi,
We just returned from 4 nights on the Mosel (2:30 hrs. drive from Frankfurt) and 2 nights in Rothenburg (2 hr.dfrive from Frankfurt). We stayed outside of Rothenburg at the...

While in Rothenburg we loved taking the Nightwatchmans tour. It's at 8pm every night starting at the main square. Also the crime and punishment Museum is very worthwhile as is St. Jacobs Church. If you're there in the evening, take a walk on the walll that surrounds Rothenburg.

We also liked seeing the old walled town of Dinkelsbuhl.

Also, very close to Rothenburg is a church with a beautiful wood carved alter by Tilmann Riemenschneider just south of Creglingen.

Simran, I tried to make Bacharach the last time I was in that area. The Romantic Road and Bacharach area are really not doable unless you have at least one full day (2 nights) in each place. So if you want to hit Bacharach then cut short your Romantic Road by one day at least and high-tail it to Bacharach. It's a lot further and longer to drive from Wurtzburg to Bacharach than you think!

Personally, I'd stick with the Romantic Road. There is a lot to see in the Bacharach direction. With Frankfurt being a popular entry point into Europe, save that direction for another trip. I could easily fill 2 weeks going northwest from Frankfurt.

I just returned from almost six weeks in Germany (Frankfurt South). We spent seven days on the Romantic Road, and could easily have spent more! Lots to see (previously mentioned) in Rothenburg (don't miss the Night Watchman tour - he is great!). Stop at Nurlingen, Aalen (Limes Museum), Giengen (Steiff Museum!), a short side trip to Ulm (tallest Cathedral spires) then back to the road... No, you should definately NOT try to squeeze a trip to Bacharach in in such a short time!

The Rhine (Bacharach, St. Goar, Boppard, etc.) - well, that is a trip in itself! Wonderful villages, beautiful river, great river boat trip, outstanding castles (as well as more ruins then you will be able to see!). And from this area it is a short jaunt across the hills to the Mosel and more castles, ruins - and more grape vines/orchards then you have ever seen before!

Sounds like you are not taking any time for seeing Munich on this trip. I hope you have either already seen it all, or are planning another trip
