Romantic Road to Paris

Hi, my husband and I would like to drive the Romantic road in September and proceed to Paris after that. We could either go down to Fussen or up to Rothenburg. What would be a cheaper option: nightrain direct from Fussen/Rothenburg or fly from Munich/Frankfurt? Thanks

I think an easier and cheaper way would be to drop the car off in Stuttgart (1.5 hr drive from Rothenburg or 2 hrs from Fussen) and take a direct day train to Paris (3.5 to 4 hrs). Look at 'raileurope.com' to see fares & schedules. You would have to switch trains & it would take longer & cost more from Fussen or Rothenburg. If you don't want to drive in the city of Stuttgart, drop off the car at the airport, located in the country beside the A8 autobahn, & then take public transportation to the train station. If you end the drive at Rothenburg, then a (day) train from Frankfurt is another option.

thanks for the advice Bill, I had been looking at the DieBahn website and it could not give me the fares I was interested in....but I think we will take your advice and catch a train from Stuttgart...it seems much simpler than having to go through luggage claim and having to figure out how to get from the airport to the city.

The TGV train from Stuttgart to Paris will take you to Gard Est, with lots of good transportation options from there. But be sure to make reservations for your trip as soon as you get to Germany -- at any rail station or with EurAide in Munich. These trains will fill up fast. The reservations will cost an extra 20 euro each, even with a Eurail Pass, but well worth having for the 1st class reserved seats, and a wonderful meal, including wine!
