Romantic road area in 3 days, too much or too little?

is 3 days in the romantic road area too much time or is it ok? We want to err rothenburg, wurzburg & nurnberg. We will then be in Munich for about 4 days including side trips. Also can these places be seen in a couple of hours or do they need full days to be seen. We don't want to visit any museums. Suggestions and opinions please!!! We leave next week!

It would be ideal to have at least one night each for Wurzburg and Nurnburg, but you can get at least a satisifying overview of each in a few hours. The one caveat with Nurnburg is with only a few hours, you could probably visit either the wonderful pedestrian old town or the Nazi Party ruins but probably not both.

we could stay one night in each one, but are tryi g to minimize the whole checking in and out thing. Like some people have suggested. What do you think?

I think you can do Würzburg and Nürnberg each in a day from Rothenburg.

Take the train to Würzburg Hbf and the streetcar from in front of the Bahnhof across the river to Festung (Fortress) Marienberg. After Marienberg, take the bus to the Residenz, then you can walk back to the station.

I did Nürnberg in a day. From the Hbf I walked across town, spending a little time in the Marktplatz (famous fountain), to the castle, did the castle tour, had lunch, then went back to the station.

You said you did not want to see museums. What do you want to see?

You should definitely spend a night in Rothenburg. It is an entirely different town after the tour buses leave. Be sure to take the night watchman tour.

I would spend a day in Rothenburg. Last trip I spent 1½ days there. First day we walked down to the Tauber and across the bridge from where we could see the whole town, then walked back and down Herrngasse to the park on the point and had a light meal on the Herrngasse.

Next morning we walked most of the Wehrgang, trying to understand what is must have been like for the residents trying to defend their town in the 30 years war. We climbed one of the towers to the museum on top. We walked around to the north gate, then toured the church and the Riemenschneider altar

It a beautiful and historic town; I don't think you could do it justice in less than a day.
