Okay, fellow travelers--which hotel do you recommend in Granada for a romantic evening with my sweetie? I've looked at Hotel America and Casa del Capitel Nazari. I loved the look of Hotel America, but it had a nasty review on TripAdvisor (yes, I know one bad review doesn't ruin a hotel but it was very negative). Any suggestions? Thanks so much for your help!
Okay! For "a romantic evening with your sweetie" in Granada, Hotel Alhambra Palace. Or Granada's famous Parador, reserve at least 6 to 8 months ahead in high season. These aren't cheap, you wanted romantic and when it comes to a romantic location you probably get what you pay for, or at least don't often get what you don't pay for--at least you didn't ask "romantic but cheap" like someone did here the other day, I sure hope that person's sweetie didn't read their post about "romantic but cheap"! :)
I recommend reading Byron, Wordsworth, Goethe, Keats, listening to some Beethoven and Wagner... oh wait, you meant the OTHER definition of "Romantic"... sorry, couldn't resist...
Out of curiosity, I looked at the TripAdvisor, and there's more than one bad review for Hotel America. Almost half range from lukewarm to very negative. Last April, we stayed at the Macia Real de la Alhambra. It's a large, modern hotel, with big, well-equipped bathrooms, good sized rooms, and great beds. The price, 80 euros. Breakfast was extra, I'm remembering 9 euros for a very extensive buffet. There's a good restaurant on the premises, as well as a spa. You can get a bus a few yards down the street, which takes you into the center of town in about 10 minutes. I'm not sure about getting to the Alhambra, since we had booked a private tour. I suspect there is also a public bus or taxi if you aren't driving. Most of the time on our European travels we do stay in small, independent accommodations. However, we really appreciated the comfort and professionalism of this hotel, not to mention the very reasonable price. Being treated well in very comfortable surroundings is highly conducive to romance in my view.
A number of bad reviews, instead of one, is something to consider and changes my recommendation, so I've edited that hotel out of my first post.
The romantic part is the dinner for 2 in the evening with the Alhambra lit up in the background. I suggest you try the Mirador de Morayma, in the Albaicin with a magnificent view of the Alhambra. It's at Calle Pianista García Carrillo 2 (yes, a street named after a piano player!) Another nice place, altho I haven't eaten here, is El Huerto de Juan Ranos, again with wonderful views of the Alhambra. Callejón de Atarazana 8, Granada.
