Is the road (N20 and E09), Connecting with the N152 and C17 to the Barcelona airport area narrow and winding, or is it a super highway? I am afraid of roads with hairpin turns through mountains, especially if they are 2 lane. Also, does anyone know how long it takes to drive this road, in comparison with going the long way through Carcassonne and Perpignan.
Thank you. Carol
The way you propose is about six hours and gets twisty without much to see, but it's mostly four-lane. The slow-down is climbing and descending through the mountains. The freeway to Narbonne and then south takes about four hours.
You could take the A61 to the A9 to Narbonne and then head south to Barcelona on the E-15. Although more miles, in theory it's about equal time and will keep you on major highways. There was construction (and hence a reduced speed limit) surrounding Girona when we went on the E-15 in February. Don't know if it's done by now.
