What city is the best place to stay,,, Nice, Cannes? Does it matter?
In my opinion, Nice, but what are your intentions, what do you like, plan to see, etc.? Please elaborate so we can help.
My husband and I plan to be in the area five days; a travel agent has set up 3 tours: Provence countryside area one day, Monaco, Monte Carlo and Eze on another and Corniche d'Or cruise. Cannes would be a place to relax on the beach and I would head over to Nice to see that too.
Nice's beach is rocky, if that matters to you (people mostly lie on mats rather than on the sand itself). I don't remember what Cannes's beach is like. People from Southern California are not always prepared for how the French Riviera beaches will look (to them, they don't look so appealing). I believe Juan les Pins (a smaller town between Cannes and Nice) has nicer, less rocky beaches. Nice and Cannes are connected by inexpensive trains that run twice an hour and take 30 minutes, so you can stay in one and visit the other easily. (They are also connected by an even cheaper bus, but it takes at least twice as long). Provence will be closer to Cannes, and Monaco/Eze will be closer to Nice.
