Rick Steves Spain Travelers - Hotels ??

Has anyone taken a recent trip to spain with Rick? WHere did you stay in San Sebastian and Barcelona? 3 of us are going on the May tour to Barcelona/Madrid and then on our own to San Sebastian.

Where did you stay - need help finding a nice place(s) in both locations. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

A number of years ago we went to San Sebastien without hotel reservations and found lodging at the Parma Hotel on Paseo Salamanca. The location was excellent, the staff were very amiable and there was an underground parking garage nearby. I would stay there again without hesitation.

I've stayed a few times at the Hostal Alemana, about 50 steps from the beach. Wonderful 2 star hotel, very modern, very nice, 77 Euro for a double during May. Click here to see it on Google maps and satellite view.

We stayed at the Hotel Parma this year on the RS San Sebastian tour. The location was wonderful and the hotel was great. We arrived a day early and paid €101 for a double exterior room for the night. We loved San Sebastian! In 2006, we went on what was then The Best of Spain and Portugal tour. In Barcelona, we stayed at the Hotel Catalonia Albinoni, which had a great location near Las Ramblas. Again, we arrived a day early and stayed in the tour hotel. At the time, the room was €171. I don't remember a thing about our room, but I wrote in my journal that it was a small, viewless room with a big bathroom. Location was great, though, and we had a wonderful time in Barcelona. When going on a tour, we find it much easier to spend pre-tour nights in the hotel we'll be using on the tour. You can get the hotel names from the RS office way ahead of time.
