In the RS Paris guide book he recoomends a day trip to Reims (page 536) Has anyone tried his recommened day trip?
Yes, we have done it. The cathedral in Reims is one of the most magnificent & interesting in France, and there are numerous major champagne producers in Reims with tours, tastings, etc. We liked Reims very much.
We stayed just south of Reims for two weeks last year. We went into town a few times, plus shopping at the Le Clerc. The Cathedral is wonderful, and well worth the trip. Parking was easy--surprisingly!
There is great shopping, also, if you are interested. There is also a wonderful market in the upper part of the town, which is worth a trip. Also, there are several champagne houses, especially Tattingers, which as worth a visit.
Visit Reims--you will enjoy it.
Now that the TGV can get you from Paris to Reims in 45 minutes, it makes for an excellent day trip. The Notre Dame cathedral is beautiful and not packed with the crowds you find at the Paris ND. Visiting some of the champagne caves is a great experience, and Reims is a pretty little town, very walkable.
