Can anyone tell me where they stayed while on their Rick Steve's tour in Hallstatt, Austria? I have read many reviews that said the one they stayed at in Hallstatt was there favorite on the trip. Which B&B is it? Thanks.

Darla, In Hallstatt the tours often use Hotel Grüner Baum, as it's likely the only place that can accommodate a group of that size. The Hotel did extensive renovations a few years ago (they were ongoing while I was there), and the lakeside rooms have beautiful wooden balconies. It's not surprising this Hotel would be a favourite with many people. It's in a beautiful location! Although I wasn't on a tour, I had one meal at the restaurant there, and it was excellent! Darla, One point to keep in mind is that the RS tours don't always use the same Hotels on every tour. A lot depends on the availability of rooms at the time. In some cases, a group will be "split" between two properties. I don't have any information on whether they always use the same Hotel in Hallstatt. In any case, if you wanted to return to Hallstatt for a few days after the tour, Hotel Grüner Baum would be a good choice. Be sure to book early! Cheers!

Thanks Ken. I am taking the tour next year with some friends but I may go back at the end of the tour for 4 nights to relax after the tour is over before heading home. I know that they will tell me the hotel but I want to book as early as possible to get the best view room possible. I know you post a lot on this sight, do you have any favorite places in the Austria/Germany area between Munich and Vienna?
