Rick's favorite Munich Brewhouse

Rick mentioned on one of his TV programs that his favorite Munich brewhouse was something other than the famous Hofbrauhaus. We are leaving next week and would like to visit Rick's favorite. Anyone know the name and location? Alternatively, any recommendations for a good brewhouse near the train station?

Thanks
Neil

The Hofbrauhaus is still listed first in Rick's book and may be first in his heart from the old days--he still calls it a must-see in his book. But you may be remembering the Augustiner Beer Garden from his video. Rick recommends over a dozen beer halls and gardens in his book.

Rick's tour guide will take you to Augustiner Beer Hall in Marienplatz. Great food, great service. You should go to the Hofbrauhaus just to see --- it is loud, smoky, and historical. Take a walk-thru.

Audrey,

I was in Munich a few months ago, and paid a visit to the Hofbrauhaus. As I recall, the "smoky" part doesn't apply any longer due to anti-smoking regulations (except for the outdoor patios, of course).

It will be fantastic when the Austrians also enact similar no smoking laws!!!.

Cheers!

That's great about the no-smoking law enacted in the past year. The Hofbrauhaus was so smoky I couldn't take it. Our RS guide refused to go in because of the smoke. She led us to the historical hall and then we were on our own. Part of our group found a relatively smoke-free place and had a great time. I walked through, went to the gift shop, and headed out.
