Does anyone know of any bookstores in Germany, specifically in or around the Frankfurt area (I'm willing to drive a bit), that carry Rick's books? I'll be forever grateful :)
Mandi,
Do you need the book fairly quickly? You could always order it from the website.
Good luck!
You can also get them trough amazon.de with no shipping cost. They seem to be in stock so should be available really fast:
www.amazon.de/gp/bestsellers/books-intl-de/59006011
The bookstore at the main train station may have some as well. Just call ahead and check. They may also be able to order them for you.
I have looked at Hugendubel in downtown Frankfurt and they don't have any of Rick Steve's books. I haven't checked the British Book store yet. But I do think ordering from Amazon.de is the best idea. Good price and not postage charges.
I need it by the end of the week so ordering it from the States isn't an option, unfortunately. Well, not unless I want to pay for DHL or UPS from the States...yikes! :)
Rick sometimes mentions where you can buy his books...but he lists those bookstore IN his books! Does anyone have his Germany book that can check for those locations for me?
I just looked through my Rick Steves' Germany and Austria 2008 guidebook and didn't see a listing of international bookstores that would carry his books. Sorry I can't help.
Is there a specific destination you have in mind? I ask, because as much as I like Rick's books, I found that he leaves far too many regions of Germany uncovered. Perhaps another travel series might suite your needs better?
Mandi,
You might try this link:
www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/bookstores.htm
There are a number of stores listed in Germany, so hopefully one of them is close to your area.
Cheers!
If you order from amazon.de today/tomorrow (your time) you'll have the book before the end of the week.
Mandi, Amazon.de is the German branch of Amazon. There is also an Amazon.uk and so on and so on. The books are a good price and no postage charge for Germany and often just a couple days delivery. For books in English, it is brilliant.
Does this mean that Rick puts all the updates and tips and suggestions that we have written about in his new 2009 book? I sure hope he changed some stuff about Frankfurt, and that he added information about Hamburg and Hannover and Heidleburg.
Thank you everyone for your help! I had originally looked at Amazon.de but it says it would ship in 4-5 days, which is too long for what I need. I'll definitely check out the website that Ken posted and hope that I can find the Germany book. I appreciate everyone's help!!
I just checked the website 2 minutes ago and this is what amazon.de says for the RS Germany 2008 book:
Lieferung bis Dienstag, 10. Februar: Bestellen Sie in den nächsten 0 Stunden und 18 Minuten und wählen Sie Overnight-Express an der Kasse.
I just checked it too, wondering about the 2009 book. It is funny that the 2008 can be delivered right away, but the 2009 takes 4-5 days. The train station doesnt have it either, I checked last week. Perhaps call the British bookstore in Frankfurt: http://www.british-bookshop.de/
or the Readers Corner: http://readers-corner-frankfurt.blogspot.com/
Or Mandi, you can ask us your questions that you were going to look up in your book and perhaps we can get you some answers.
Mandi,
There probably won't be any huge differences between the 2008 and 2009 versions of the books (check the "Guidebooks Update" page on this website).
If you're only able to find a 2008 version, I'd probably settle for that.
Good luck!
Thanks all for your help! I found it at the Hugendubel in Frankfurt and am heading up to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. If anyone ever needs one of Rick's books and they're in the Frankfurt area they have a pretty large selection and what they don't have online they can order in very quickly.
If I can ever return the favor and answer any Germany questions for you just let me know :)
