Rhineland hostels and rock climbing?

My family (husband, kids 14 and 11 years old) and I are looking into the hostels in St. Goar and Bacharach for a summer visit to the area. We've heard that one of the two tends to be full of noisy schoolkids, and are hoping to avoid that. Any comments?

Additionally, we are interested in doing some relatively easy, guided rock-climbing in the area (we've done a lot of climbing indoors, but none outdoors yet). Any suggestions?

I should mention that we all speak and understand German pretty well, if that influences your comments at all.

I really appreciate your advice!!

The noisy school kids are possible in all German hostels, but they're only there during the school year. If you'll be there after about mid-July, school will have let out for the year and they'll be annoying their parents instead of you. If you'll be there before that, you might reconsider. Really.

You might also look into an apartment for a few days. The four of us really enjoyed the Rhine View apartment in St. Goar:

Thanks for the tip! We'll be getting there on July 15, so maybe we'll take our chances after all...

My daughter and I (was 64 at the time)stayed in hostels in Germany. None of them were noisy. They were immaculate and served a nice breakfast.

Patricia, if you are asking about the hostel in Stahleck castle in Bacharach, we were there two years ago in July and there were several groups of young kids staying there. I'm guessing that there may be many groups of kids that stay there all year round. It's a hit or miss situation. We did not stay at the castle, however, I checked it out and it looks like a great place to stay. Very clean and they have family rooms. It would be a great experience for you. Have fun on your trip!

Thanks for the advice, everyone! We've booked a family room in a hostel, and are keeping our fingers crossed :)!
