Which would you recommend? i like beautiful scenery but less crowds and touristy traps.
For a cruise, the Rhine. Far more dramatic. Cruise from Bingen to Boppard (2 hrs. 20 min.) for the best scenery - north of Boppard the scenery isn't worth the boat time. Don't reverse the cruise - it's 1 hr. 40 min. longer that way. For towns and sights, it's a toss-up - the Mosel destinations are wonderful, but so are the ones on the Rhine. Be sure to do more than just the river cruise, and see some towns on both rivers if possible. The only "tourist trap" I can think of is Rüdesheim - but even it is charming in its own way.
I would recommend the Mosel. It is closer to the romantic ideal one envisions when thinking of visiting Germany.
