We are to leave Basel June 6 2013 for 8 day Rhine cruise Stops in Speyer. Calogne Amsterdam, Dusseldorf Rudesheim and Strasbourg. Small ship MS Antonio Bellucci Owned by Feenstra Rhine Line. Could you advise if segments of this trip could be effected? Could the entire trip be a problem with the flooding.
Thank you JE
Seems the cruise operator would know the extent to which the trip might be impacted. Is there a contact number or email address you can reach them on?
I don't have an exact answer, and I'm in Belgium right now, so I can't drive over to have a look at the Rhine levels. But as I understand, the bad flooding right now is in the Danube and Moldau watersheds, not the Rhine. I'm sure water levels are higher than normal, with all the rain we've experienced, but I haven't heard anything about severe flooding along this river basin. Now that being said, there's been some flooding along the Neckar, which is a tributary of the Rhine. But, it could get worse. We had a very cold spring, so quite a bit of snow remains unmelted in the Alps. If we suddenly get hit with a spike of much warmer weather and more rain, it could cause flooding in the Rhine basin.
