We will be driving from Koblenz to Wiesbaden and want to stop along the way at some of the towns and villages; we are spending the night near Wiesbaden. We are looking for suggestions on where to stop along the way and what to see. We would appreciate any suggestions!
I'd travel south along the east bank first to Braubach (tour Marksburg Castle there) then south to the Boppard ferry; cross there, visit Boppard (nice old town, chairlift ride, wineries), then head south to visit St. Goar (Rheinfels Castle), Oberwesel (walk old town wall, wineries), and Bacharach (many half timbered buildings, wineries.) Stop at Rheinstein Castle north of Bingen. Then use the auto ferry in Bingen to cross back over to the east bank and Rüdesheim for a visit and continue to Wiesbaden for the evening. You'll obviously want to take it easy at the wineries if you're driving.
On a clear skies day I'd consider climbing the Lorely rock.
Thanks to both of you! great suggestions and i'm already looking them up online!
