My husband and I are doing a backpacking tour through Europe. We are going to be in Germany for 3 days at the end of June. We were thinking about doing a day cruise/tour of part of the Rhine River. We can't seem to only find day ones. Do they exist? And what is the best part of the river to visit?
Natasha - I am taking a 21 day trip to Europe and on our 4th day we will go to Bacharach, Germany. Then we head to St. Goar to see Rheinfels castle, overlooking the Rhine. After the tour of the castle we will take a cruise on the Rhine. I guess if you look up Bacharach and/or St. Goar, you will find a very nice place on the river. Have fun and enjoy.
KD lines certainly offer day cruises on the Rhine. With KD you can buy a ticket between any of the many cities that it services. Rick Steve's recommends cruising from Bacharach to St. Goar. I have driven this route and it is quite beautiful:

Rheinfels is interesting but is mostly ruins. Marksburg Castle in Braubach to the north of St. Goar provides a superior castle experience:

You could cruise or take a train to Braubach. Ferry across at St. Goar and use the train station on the opposite side in St. Goarshausen to ride the rails to or from Braubach.
