Rhine/Mosel in November

Hello all -

Planning a trip to Europe over Thanksgiving. Considering Paris, London, Germany.... Would like to thank everyone in advance for all the advice I've received already.

I THINK my best option at this point (to make everyone in my family happy) would be to fly into FRA, spend time on Rhine/Mosel then head to Paris from Trier, fly home from CDG.

I know the weather is iffy and Burg Eltz is closed that time of year. Other than that are there any other negatives to be aware of. I really want to see part of Germany, but if this is a bad time of year I'd like to know and go a different time.

Thanks

Brandon, you should be in the beginning of the German Christmas Fairs all over the area. You can check german-christmas-fairs.org.uk. for the list and starting times--this year a good bunch begin the week of the American Thanksgiving.
Yes, weather will be "iffy" ranging from great to cold rains to snow, so dress in layers, and warm shoes and a "brawley"(umbrella in the US, parapluie in French) will be required.

I believe that the Marksburg (www.marksburg.de) in Braubach, the only other castle besides Burg Eltz that was not destroyed and rebuilt, is open year round. And it's a lot easier to get to than Burg Eltz.

I was there (Mosel) a year ago, in early November, and I got rained on a lot of the time. It made touring Beilstein not much fun. Oh, the castle ruins at Beilstein are also closed that time of year.
