Review of 17 Day Germany Trip

Well, this took way too long for me to post. In regards to that, as far as I'm concerned, the medical treatment in the U.S. is top notch, and I'm so thankful to be able to share with those on this message board, especially those who gave me so much good advice (even if I didn't heed all of it).

What a remarkable country Germany is. When I first starting thinking where to go this year (for our second ever European trip), Germany was not in the top ten of places that my wife wanted to go. Well, did she ever change her opinion.

Top Ten Things about Germany:
1. The people. Everyone we came in contact with was courteous, kind, and helpful. Wow were they helpful!

  1. The Food. When we visited Paris, Spain, and Italy, we were so looking forward to some great eats . . . and were so disappointed. We had low expectations before Germany of how the food would be, but we were more than pleasantly surprised. We ate food from many parts of the world, and it was so tasty.

  2. Beautiful country. Lush, green, picturesque landscapes, gorgeous waterways, stunning alps.

  3. Awesome cathedrals and churches.

  4. Transportation. Driving for the first 8 days, mostly on the autoban, was a pleasure. If only the freeways in So Cal were pothole free like what we experienced. And, of course, the train travel was relaxing (with one exception) and so easy to get from place to place.

  5. Big Cities. Alive and thriving. Multicultural. Full of history.

  6. Small towns. Just like one would expect: laid back, quant, but also full of history.

  7. Castles. Castles. Castles. Okay, we visited a lot of them, and there were a couple of turkeys (I'll get into that later), but I really dug those castles. Wifey thought some were pretty cool, but would have cut out about half of them.

  8. Museums. Overwhelming amount of historical and artistics things to see. While it was difficult to take it all in, we did our best.

  9. WWII and Holocaust. Eagles Nest, Dachau, Third Reich Tours, memorials, Nuremberg Documentation Center. Moving and educational.

More to follow . . .

We did not know what to expect during our first visit in Europe.

We spent a total of 12 days in Munich, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Trier and Aachen. Of the 8 countries we visited, Germany and Switzerland would tie for first and Austria would be second.

We were impressed with those countries not only for the beautiful scenery but they are so clean and tidy people.

We rode the train from place to place. Took a tour bus to Ludwig's castles and also noticed NO potholes on the roads. We asked the bus driver why no potholes...he said they build their road to last and repair them quickly when needed. US road contractors need to study how the Germans build roads.

Due to WW2 we were curious as to how the Germans would treat Americans. They were VERY nice and courteous.

My daughter has since returned and toured the northern and eastern area of Germany and loved it.

Glad you enjoyed you trip.
