We'll be returning our rental car as we arrive in Barcelona this summer. We'll be staying at an as yet undetermined hotel near Placa de Catalunya or in the Eixample. Does it make the most sense to return our rental car at Barcelona's airport or at its Sants rail station, which i assume is somewhere downtown? Thanks.

Alan, the airport bus goes directly to the Placa Catalunya, and back, so the airport is a good rental return area...if you are going to fly in or out. If you go to Google maps and plug in the rail staion, you will see that it is 3.9 kilometers from Las Ramblas, and you will see that the subway goes between the two areas. We enjoyed the funky Hotel Continental when we were there this past June.

The traffic in Barcelona is like any large city, but the drivers aren't crazy. I would drop the luggage at the hotel then return the car at the station. A GPS would be helpful for that.
