No, we don't want to eat at McDonald:-) I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive, but good dinner (30 Euros-Meal, considered "Moderately priced" by RSs) on the Champs, between the Arc (or right around it) and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Good French food please (we don't want to sacrifice bad food just to be on the Champs). I'm sure inexpensive with "Champs-Elysees" is an oxymoron, but I thought I'd try. We're doing the first part of the C.E. Walk (up to F.D.Roosevelt), but we won't get to the Arc until about 6pm, so I thought I'd look close-by (if there's nothing good though, we can travel to close-by rue Cler area). Thanks!
Dinner - 30 Euros per person is possible but you might find you are only having a main dish without entree, wine or dessert. Typically dining on the Champs is over priced and I would recommend walking from George V (street that Louis Vuitton is on - in the direction of your hotel - down the hill to Alma Marceau) or Saint Honore (near the Arc). There are restaurants along the way - look for a Formule - entree, plat and dessert. If you are wanting to eat early, look for Service Continu - typically restaurants do not begin serving dinner until 19h at the earliest.
If you are wanting to have a bit of a Champs Elysees experience - start with an aperitif on one of the terraces. Have a kir and enjoy the people watching and then walk to a restaurant.
Thanks Jona- We'll probably be near George V by 7:30pm, so this should work.
I've also been looking at Cafe Lateral (RSs suggests) behind the arc, not on Champs, but can't find anyone's review of it.
I vote that you go to the Rue Cler area. There are lots of wonderful restaurants in Rick's book in that area that are very reasonably priced.
Deborah is right on - I loved staying on Rue Cler, and look forward to returning later this year. Great food, great fun, lots of people watching.
I agree with other posters about the overpriced and touristy restaurants on the Champs. There is a good, very typical, French bistro nearby called Chez Andre (12 rue Marbeuf, which intersects the Champs). They have a menu for about 34 euros, including wine and coffee.

Once you enter past the home page there is an option for English (right side)
One of the Virtual Tourists rated the restaurant thus
Restaurant Name: Cafe Lateral,
Trendy bar/terrace/ resto, excellent service & very prompt, delicious salads & overall an excellent cuisine.
Gave it a 3 out of 5 stars
Walk one block off of the Champs-Elysees, and restaurant prices drop closer to the range you desire.
I agree w/ Tom and others... take that walk 1 or 2 blocks away and you'll get great food, not a touristy and 1/3 of the price.
We'll just walk away-
from the Champs-Elysees.
For Dinner. (My small attempt at rhyming...can you tell I'm getting punchy...3 weeks out).
Thanks all!
