Restaraunt Recommendations in Paris?

I will be staying on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees (at the Marriott to be specific) in Paris for a couple of days in May and I would like to try a traditional French restaurant. I will be eating alone, I can’t speak French, and I will be in business casual attire - but no jacket or tie.

Given my situation, does anyone have any recommendations on a good French restaurant in the area? It doesn't have to have Michelin stars, but given France's foodie reputation, I figure I should try to experience some sort of French dining.

Hi Mark,

I am not going to be very helpful with this, but I found that area to be wonderful for restaurants... I just recommend that you walk a couple blocks away from the Champs d'Elysses as the price immediately by that street goes up exponentially.

I wandered around and enjoyed wonderful meals at a couple of different places. The food was always excellent... just try to avoid places that look like pubs (Paris is not exactly known for great pub food).

Hopefully someone will have a better recommendation, but I am sure you will enjoy even just wandering around. Have a great trip!

I would go to Laudree on the Champs-Elysees. It's causal.

In regards to price range - its not a major concern. I would consider anything $25 to $150.

Mark: Dining in Paris can be an adventure! In France food matters. At the upper end of your price range, you can get your money's worth in Paris. Be glad to make some suggestions, suggest you send me a Private Message (click the link under my post), that way we don't take up space on the public part of the Board with one on one dialogue.

Try Bastide Odeon near Luxembourg Gardens or Les Bouquinistes on Rue St Augustin across from Notre Dame. Both are very good.

Try Le Florimond. I am pretty sure it is in Rick's book. The last time I was in Paris the clerk at the hotel recommended we go there. It was very good and not too expensive. Many locals were there. What really made the night for us though was when a lovely, elderly woman at the next table who was there eating alone asked us how we found out about Le Florimond. She told us she lived in Normandy, but used to live in Paris, and she was in Paris for a weekend visit. She said in the old days it was easy to find a good restaurant in Paris, but that times had changed. She told us that Le Florimond was one of her favorite restaurants and that she eats there whenever she comes to Paris. She thought we were very lucky that it had been recommended to us.

I haven't been there, but have read a lot about it and plan to go there when I'm in Paris in September -- Le Drugstore (or Drugstore Publicis) There is actually a brasserie, bar, wine bar in this complex. Seems pretty fabulous. Glass enclosed and right across the street from the Arch de Triomphe. They have a website, but the one in English is not available yet.
