My husband, 2 sixteen-year-old girls, and I will be in Normandy in mid-July. We will be in Rouen for 1 night, Caen for two nights, and staying somewhere between Mt.St. Michael and Paris for a night. Two questions: 1)Do we need reservations ahead of time? (I like the idea of some flexibility/spontaneity in our schedule.) 2)Any cost efficient suggestions for accommodations?
For four people traveling in July, I would reserve ahead.
I agree with Doug. In July, without pre-booking, you could be spending hours looking for a hotel with vacancies, so there goes your spontaneity. For Rouen, see if the Hotel Cathédrale can accommodate you. It is right across from the cathedral and a pleasant place to stay.
I am presuming you are travelling by car. If you go to the website of Logis de France (small family-run hotels all over France) you may find lodging for your family in Normandy.
