I had made a reservation for one night at the Hotel Reina Victoria (a/k/a Catalonia Reina Victoria)in Ronda, Spain for December. I've sent 2 emails and had called notifying them of my need to cancel the reservation and requested a confirmation that I had done so. I continue to not receive a reply. They have the correct email on file and I am well within the time limits of canceling without a penally. Any suggestions on how to assure that I won't be charged for the room? I have never had this kind of experience before. Thank you for any ideas.
Contact your credit card company and tell them not to pay the charge. Leave a paper trail.
You could notify your credit card company now that you have cancelled this within their time frames, if they need you can get them copies of the hotel's policy and your e-mail to them cancelling. And hopefully that will block them from making any charge. S for the first reply to this, is there any guarantee that a consolidator (whole charging for the service) would have been any more responsive?
Zoe and Larry, I received a confirmation notice this morning (after sending another email last night). Thank you for the suggestions.
James, by 'consolidator' do you mean a travel agent? If not I don't know what you're referring to.
I think "consolidator" is being used to refer to a booking agency, like booking.com, venere.com, etc. As I understand it, they charge the property a commission on the first night's stay, but the guest pays nothing until the actual check-in, although a few properties will charge your credit card at the time of reservation (this is rare).
although a few properties will charge your credit card at the time of reservation (this is rare). It's not that rare. Most hotels these days offer a deeply discounted advance purchase rate that's non-refundable/changeable. But if you don't show up you eat the money.
Cancelling is really easy with booking.com... I use it often and many times change my plans. James is right... it gives you a cancellation confirmation immediately. I have never had them charge the room when I make the res. but they do have your CC# just in case you don't show up or don't cancel. You will be charged one night.
