Has anyone done this through Top Bikes or another company? It looks like a fun way to enjoy the outdoors. I didn't realize Salzburg has so many bike paths, along the river and elsewhere.
Steve -- thanks for the information. Sounds like perfect terrain for easy biking. Apparently there's a dedicated bike/pedestrian path (no cars) from old town Salzburg to Hellbrun Palace. It seems like that would be a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon.
Andrea, I have not rented through Top Bikes, but I have spent quite a bit of time biking through Salzburg. We stayed on Moostrasse, and our B&B lent us bikes. We would ride them into Salzburg, and used them to tour the Countryside. Biking to Helbrunn is great. You will pass the house that was used as the front of the house in the Sound of Music. (When I went with my sister and brother-in-law, I led our own "Sound of Music sites bike tour") We also biked from Salzburg to Hallein. It was a great trail, but I'm not sure if I would do it again. (We had been to Salzburg multiple times and really just wanted a fun day to bike. Most of the sights were between Salzburg and Hellbrun Palace.) While the bikes were great for getting into Salzburg, once there we locked them up and walked everywhere.
We rented bikes from a place along the river (there are a few different companies). We rode out to Hellbrun and around Salzburg. It's fairly flat, and a lot of fun.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm just a casual biker but riding to Hellbrun sounds doable, even for me. It will make a great break from all the trains, planes and automobiles we'll be traveling in!
