Renting an apartment in Paris in March

Heading to Paris on our way to Provence. Five of us (2 couples +1) will arrive on Tues morning and leave Saturday morning. We are considering an Apartment vs hotel in the Left Bank. Looking for experiences and advice. Thanks

There are plenty of apartments to choose from. I usually use vrbo.com (Vacation Rentals By Owner) or Homeaway.com to find the apartments I rent. You can search by area and there are many rentals in the 5th & 6th arrondissments on the Left Bank. In my opinion those areas are more central and "walkable" to most sites, as opposed to the 7th. Personally I enjoy apartments more than hotels. They provide more space and the ability to not have to eat all meals out. Most apartments include free wifi and many have washers. Some even have dryers. That helps with packing light. When renting directly from the owner you may find they are willing to negotiate the price. It doesn't hurt to ask! ;-)

Hi Kathy - We've used Vacation in Paris and recommend them highly. Last summer five of us rented ID #48 near St Sulpice. The apartment space was perfect with two full baths, two bedrooms, and a comfy convertible sofa in the living room. It's close to the Metro and about two blocks from a wonderful bakery called Gerard Mulot.

We used Vacation in Paris 2 times and they were excellent both times.

I would also recommend iloveparisapartments.com
They pretty much specialize in apts in the Left Bank areas. We have rented two apts from them without any problems.

I've used Vacation Rental by Owner (www.vrbo.com) in Paris, Colorado, Florida, and have had excellent experiences. The site has a great sorting ability by # of bedrooms, lots of photos, and you can contact the owner directly if you have questions about your arrival date. You can ask the owner for the address and use Google maps "street view" to see the street and locale of the apartment and also see how close metro stops are, etc. This apt (http://www.vrbo.com/116297) was great for our needs. It is not luxurious/glamorous, but it is well situatied, homey and spacious, especially for Paris. 2 BR apartment with 1 Bathroom (don't know if there are too many Paris apts wtih 2 bathrooms, that might be something to look at on the website). The bedrooms were large, and especially the living area which included a large couch, chairs, and then a rectangular dining room table with plenty of room to walk around between the table and sitting area-this is not always the case, especially in Paris. Living room and bedrooms had floor to ceiling windows. The location was perfectin the Latin Quarter, not on a main street (quiet), just one block off a main square, near a metro, restaurants, and a pedestrian street that is famous for its shops & dining choices. Another plus: the toilet was in a separate room from the shower/bath, and if you are traveling with a group that is helpful. One bedroom had a double or queen bed, the other had 2 twin beds, and when we were there the couch could be slept on. Have fun!

DO NOT use Craigslist. It is full of scammers in Paris. They claim to be "Vacations in Paris" but they are not. Go directly to Vacations in Paris website. Only problem is that unless they have an unusual situation, they only rent by the week.

We used vacationinparis and visited during March--a great time to go as crowds are minimal. We were very happy with the service at vacationinparis and thrilled with our apartment. No problems at all. Have a wonderful time!

Another vote for Vacations in Paris! They are an amazing company, usually send you the keys before you leave the states, have a manual in the apartment to tell you how to use the appliances. I wouldn't use anyone else. We already have our apartment in the Marais for this May booked with them.
