Hey all, What are the license/ insurance requirements for renting a car and/ or a scooter in France. I'm a 25-year old with a Canadian license if that matters at all. Merci!

We're renting a car in May and I called their Consulate and they said it's recommended to get an International Driver License but not the law but if you encounter a policeman that doesn't speak English and you don't speak French, you'll be in trouble; go to CAA they charge $15 for one plus two copies of your photo. I do my own photo so I save there. We're renting from AutoEurope and it was almost the same cost with full insurance and no deductible than no insurance. If you have CDW coverage on your Credit Card, you can decline the insurance, but I find it's peace of mind to take it. Also rent a standard as automatics are twice as expensive and they also charge 5Euros per day to drive an automatic on their roads.
