Looking to take the train from Paris to Bayeaux and use Bayeaux as our base to tour Normandy. Can someone recommend a good car rental place in Bayeaux?
We've rented a car in Bayeux several times. We rented through AutoEurope and the location was far from the station so we took a taxi to get there. Last time was '08 and they might have a place closer to the station now. We've rented from AutoEurope many, many times and have always been happy with them. We love Bayeux too, it's a charming town.
Get off the train in Caen and rent right across from the station. Drive to Bayeux. The only rental place I can recall in Bayeux is way the hell and gone on the nw side of town.
We used Bayeux as a base a couple of years ago and loved it. Great restaurants, such as La Fringale, Le Petit Normand, Lion D'Or, La Raine Mathilde. Don't miss the Tapestry and the WWII museum. As for rental cars, you can rent them - I believe there is a rental office right across from the train station. However, depending on how long you will be there and what you will be doing, you might not even need one. Bayeux is eminently walkable, and you can book day tours to the D-Day sights. Whatever you do, enjoy Bayeux and the area.
We've rented cars in Caen as well, a couple times. I still prefer getting one in Bayeux and taking taxi rather than driving 1+ hrs from Caen - although the drive is easy on the freeway. But that's just me. Place we rented from in Bayeux wasn't that far - I've walked there from town and back a couple times. But a taxi is best for most people.
We stayed in Bayeaux and rented from Hertz there. It was a short walk from our hotel - that was 3 years ago.
