Greetings everyone. Vacationing in Provence. Taking the train from Paris to Avignon, where we'll need to rent a car with navi. My understanding is that there's a bunch of rental car places near the Avignon train station. Do any of you have any recommendations as to the best rent-a-car company to use? Thanks.

I use AutoEurope (autoeurope.com) for car rentals. They are a consolidator based in Maine. Definitely arrange your rental before your trip.

There are two train stations serving Avignon, the old one on the edge of the central city where regional trains arrive and the other for TGVs on the outer fringe. A shuttle bus connects the two stations. Posters elsewhere have suggested the TGV station is very easy to use for rentals. Parking in the centre is a nightmare.

We've used Autoeurope as the car broker many times over the past twelve years. We almost always go for one of their Europecar rentals because that brand is available for pick up, drop off or exchange in nearly every town. If you don't go through a US broker, such as AutorEurope or Europe by Car, or company, such as Hertz, and pay in dollars, you'll have a higher rate and additional taxes to pay on the rental.
