renting a camper/van in Frankfurt

We have reserved a VW camper/van for our 3 weeks in Europe this July. We have ordered David Shore's book,Europe by Van and Motorhome. Do we also need the AA UK book Rick Steves' recommends ,Caravan & Camping Europe? Do any of you have advice or ideas we might need? We will be in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Thanks!

You might take a look at the other book at your library or book store and see if it has additional information that the other doesn't. I often do that with guidebooks, use one for, say, lodging information and another for sightseeing information.

Unfortunately, we can't see the other book. It is only available in Great Britain from AA, their version of the U.S. AAA auto club.

Have you checked amazon for the AA UK book, you may find a used one. Or check amazon.uk for a used one. I'd try to find out the copyright date, so it wont be several years old.

I just realized that I have a question about our first day. We land in Frankfurt at noon, pick up our van/camper by 3:00 and need to pick up our son in Prague the next morning. This is our first trip to Europe and we will be getting off of a long flight. What would be reasonable for that first day?? How far should we try to drive? Would halfway be a good idea or should we stay near Wurzburg or Nurnberg and try to get out and walk a bit in the late afternoon or evening? It appears to be about a 5 hr. drive from Frankfurt to Prague. Thanks for any ideas.

I flew from California to Frankfurt, picked up a car and drove to Freiburg, about 3 hours away. It wasn't really a problem. Everyone deals with the trip differently though. We stayed up until midnight that first night (we met up with family we hadn't seen in a long time...you know how that goes...). My jet lag is always after I get home.
