We are renting a car while in Germany in August. Is it better to reserve as far in advance as possible (i.e. NOW) or is it better to wait? Thanks!
Reserve it now, and then continue to watch for deals. There is no penalty for canceling a rental car reservation, so if a better deal comes along later you can grab it and cancel the first one. If not, you have the first one set.
Tiffany, check with gemut.com. They will quote you a rate in U.S. dollars and lock you in if the dollar should decline against the Euro. If the dollar should gain against the Euro you can call back and get a better deal. They will match or beat any other deal as long as everything is comparable. You can go to their website and I would go a step further and call Andrew Bestor and he will help you with any questions. Excellent customer service. One year I was overcharged by the rental company and called Mr. Bestor and he got my overcharge refunded. Saved me the hassle of dealing direct with the rental company and it is doubtful I would have gotten a refund on my own. I always encourage people who are renting a car to have a gps with them. You can purchase one here and take it with you if you do not already have one. That way you will be familiar with it before you leave. The gps is one item I would not be without if planning on renting a car.
Nancy, not necessarily true about no penalty. I'm renting my car from sixti.com. I think since its dirt cheap to rent, there's more rules. One rule being no cancelations (without penalty) after 14 days upon booking. And, any changes cost 5 euros.
Hi,
I can also recommend www.gemut.com
I always reserve well in advance, actually it's the first thing we do when planning a trip. We rented through Gemut last year and travelocity.com the year before. No penalty for cancelling, but it does makes sense to double check this yourself.
