Am I right to assume that when I want to drop off my rental at the airports of Bordeaux and Lyon, there will be signs pointing to the rental office spots like here in the U.S.?

Well, maybe, if you're lucky, since it IS an airport - but really, I'd be cautious about assuming that the French are as compulsive as we are about road signs. The Germans are as compulsive as we are about road signs, but the French not always. The French think life, even when driving, should have a little mystery. As compared to the Italian approach to driving and road signs, which is chaos. :)

Bill knows my tendencies and is absolutely right in what he said above. I love Italy and meant it in a nice way; just now I even went back and edited the first post to add a smiley. We may not have line breaks but at least we still have smileys. :)
