Rental Car at Charles de Gualle

Next month I'll need to rent a car a CDG airport and I'll have it for 12 days. Any suggestions on who to rent from and more importantly, who to NOT rent from? I just need a little economy car and I'll be driving around Normandy and Brittany the whole time. Thanks everyone!

All the biggies are there. Go on line and pre book. I don't think there is any difference between major companies. They just want to sell(rent) you a product, with no hassle on your or their end. Who do you rent from while in the US? Go with them. Get the CDW and relax it's only a car rental.

AutoEurope is US based broker for renting cars outside the States. We've been using them for twelve years, many rentals with no problems. If you have any questions, you can call them on their 800-number, even from Europe. They deal with all the major rental companies at a negotiated price.

Warning, CDW cost is about $20 a day with any rental and there is still a $1200-1500 deductable. The only supplemental insurance to cover that is through the car rental company and costs $30 a day. We worked with a travel agent after trying on-line to find another option to this. Only other option is waive the CDW and reply on credit card insurance or policy that costs about $9/day to be reimbursed. We were not prepared for that as in the past in other countries we didn't have this high a cost or deductable.

Renee, I highly recommend going to this website, www.gemut.com. These guys have been advising travelers to Europe for many years. They specialize in travels to Germany, Austria and Switzerland but will handle your car rental needs to any European country. I have used them many times and have never been disappointed. They will get you the best possible price and if you have trouble in Europe you can contact them 24/7. You will probably talk to one of the Bestors who run the business and deliver professional, courteous service.
And, if you don't already know this, if you rent your car with a Visa or Master Card, the card companies provide insurance for up to 30 days so you don"t need any supplemental insurance. Have a nice trip!

Renee, AE and Gemut are awesome brokers that rep all of the major rental outfits. We have used AE extensively in the EU, with great success. Go to the AE website and fiddle with the pickup locaions. You will notice that prices vary, with additional fees charged if you pick up your car at an airport or train station. Sometimes it can be worth a short cab ride to town to pick up youur rental car. When in France we used our credit card to provide our CDW coverage...in fact, that is what Gemut recommends in many cases. If you want "super CDW" check out the cars, rates and terms at AE.eu. The EU site saved us about 30% on our Spainish rental this year, and it came fully insured. Bring your GPS with you, and a small fold our Michelin map of France, and you will be good to go!
