Does anyone know if the Renoir Museum in Haut-de-Cagnes is open after it's renovation in 2012 - 2013? If so, has anyone been to it? Is it a worthy stop on the way to Villefranche Sur Mer?
We enjoyed it, but that was in 2011 and didnt realized they had a renovation and closing since then. It is not so much a museum as a very atmospheric home with some of his furniture and props and other tools in his studio. Views out across the town below and his gardens are nice. There is a movie out that is set during his time there ("Renoir").
Thanks Nancy. I loved Monet's home in Giverney; so I thought Renoir's home would be nice to visit too. Thanks.
Kerry, I loved visiting Renoir's home too and there were very few people there at the time (summer), in contrast to the crowds at Giverny. The garden is very different from Giverny too but lovely, with roses, statues, olive trees. I wasn't aware of the renovation either but if it is open, it is worth a stop.
I like this kind of thing MORE than visiting art museums and my kids enjoy it much more too! They get some art history and culture, but it's more personal; something they can connect with more than seeing 100's of varied artist's paintings. I hope it's open by the time we go, July/August this year.
