I have managed multiple successes now and the secret appears to have been bypassing my router. When I tapped into an old laptop directly from the modem it all worked like clockwork. Three times in a row. It is still true that my Capitol One card did not work while my other Visa did. Thank you all for your advice and for putting up with my rantings.
