Renfe AVE train & seat assignments?

After way too much angst and joint calls with visa I went ahead and spent the extra $15 and purchased through rail europe. My question is -- Rail Europe did not give me a seat assignment. I do have "coche 6" on my tickets. Do I need a seat assignment?

Coche 6 is the carriage that you are in, so you are part way there. I checked my Renfe ticket and my seat assignment is listed under "plaza". Do you have that on your ticket?
