It seems like Renfe has changed up their website and it is now easier to purchase AVE tickets online (without knowing Spanish!). This is based on what I've seen from previous posters and the TripAdvisor instructions.
I'm still a couple days early from being able to purchase. Has anyone booked AVE tix recently and are my perceptions true?
You're correct. RENFE redid its entire website several weeks ago, and it is now the same in English (and six other languages) as it is in Spanish.
There is one glitch in the English section that remains unresolved, however. When booking overnight trains, the drop-down box where you select your class of accommodations does not work. To book overnight trains, you'll have to use the Spanish version. Since they are the same, translating what it says is not difficult.

Brandon. If you have the Google Toolbar installed on your browser you can use the translate function when using the Spanish site. The translation is good enough that you should not have any problems buying tickets. It worked for me in March before the site was changed.
