Reims and champagne caves or Mont St. Michel

My daughter has been studying in Cannes for the semester and we are taking a quick trip to Lyon and Paris on her way home. She really wants to take a day trip from Paris to Reims and the champagne caves or Mont st. Michel. Has anyone been to both that can compare the two. I know Mont. St. Michel sounds like a long day trip but doable. Anyone done Reims in a day? Thanks

Honestly, I don't feel MSM is worth the hassle of a day trip. The American Cemetery and D-Day things (even the Bayeux Tapestry) are much better IMO. Reims is probably do-able in a looong day. (I did it in a weekend) You can train to Reims and rely on public transportation to get you to a few champagne houses. Or you can rent a car and drive through Epernay (birthplace of Champagne!) and enjoy the scenery and smaller champagne houses or even a walk down the avenue de champagne.

Kristin a couple of friends and I took the train from Paris to Reims to visit Tattingers champagne cave. The tour was very interesting insomuch as you had an opportunity to see how the monks got around in the cave with only candle/oil light. On a scale of 1-10 it was maybe a 6 1/2.

Champagne is much more feasible than MSM as a day trip from Paris. Much.
