Reifenstein castle or Ehrenberg ruins in Reutte

We are in Fussen. Our plan was to leave here tomorrow, drive through Innsbruck through the Brenner Pass and visit Reifenstein Castle. We wanted to "go to Italy" for the fun of it, see the historic Brenner Pass and the views and see the castle. Now we are thinking of staying here and seeing a bit of Fussen and going to Reutte to see the Ehrenberg ruins. Either way, we are ending up in Munich tomorrow night. If it is a choice, which would you do?

dont have first hand knowledge of reifenstein. we hiked to ehrenberg from our B&B and loved it but you can do it in a couple or three hours. on a kickback day we drove south from reutte to imst austria to ride the mountain coaster (not a luge) it was really fun. then it rained so we "went to switzerland and italy" for the fun of it. it was a pretty drive but in another direction than you are considering i think. you could prob do all of that in a day

If you drive to nearby Pfronten (go past Weissensee), you can go up to the Falkenstein ruins, where Ludwig planned on building his next castle. There is a hotel near the castle ruins and you can drive up to it.

It is a fairly long drive to the border unless you plan on continuing to Dolomite area. In your case I would stay in Fussen I can't comment on Ehrenberg ruins as it was raining when we were there so we missed it. But Reinfenstein is nice but not worth going out of your way IMO.

Hi terri,

I'd stay around the Fuessen area. Did you see the Wieskirche? Reifenstein is a bit out of your way as your winding up in Munich. We went to Reifenstein twice, both times we were turned away at the door, as we didn't have 4 people to take the tour. First time we had 2 people, second time we had 3 people and I offered to pay for the 4th that wasn;t there, but the woman wasn't interested.
