Has anyone heard or visited this place - it is near Trier.
I have heard that it is a beautiful walled city but can not find any information on it.
I've driven through, but I can't remember anything about it, so it's probably just a typical small town for the region. I doubt it has a wall, as I don't remember seeing any walled city along that route.
From the website, it looks like a cute little village, much liked about 10,000 other villages in Germany, but not a walled city. I don't see any mention on the website of a wall, and, at 460 residents, it is hardly a city. There must be something American nearby. They mention 120 American citizens live there.
"There must be something American nearby. They mention 120 American citizens live there." It sits just up the road from Landstuhl, site of the main US military hospital in Europe, and Ramstein Air Base, HQ of NATO air command.
Perhaps you were thinking of "Ahrweiler"? I've never been there, but it would seem to fit your description much better than Rehweiler. Lonely Planet's Germany edition has two brief paragraphs about it.
Tom - I think you are right it must be Arhweiler
I wonder what would be better to stay there one night or Cochem
I was in Ahrweiler a while back for an afternoon. It's a very attractive village along the Ahr River, tucked away between some steep cliffsides. There seemed to be a good number of eateries and several places to stay where I wouldn't mind being held captive for the rest of my life.
If you're just spending the night, it probably doesn't matter much which place you stay. Cochem is a good bit larger and offers more in the way of entertaining activities.
Or it could be Reichweiler, which is closer to Landstuhl than Trier. But I don't think it has a wall around it.
