Anyone have suggestions on books on Portuguese history? I've seen the list that Rick recommends, but I'm looking for others so I have a bigger ion to choose from. Thanks for your suggestions!
I strongly recommend you read some José Saramago. He one the Nobel Prize for LIterature. While he writes fiction, much of it is from an historical perspective. I recommend you start with Baltasar and Blimunda, then The History of the Siege of Lisbon. Finally finish with The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis. I read all of the books on Rick's list and they are all good. I enjoyed discussing Saramago with native Portuguese. He is required reading in most schools. Opinions vary widely as he is somewhat controversial.
